Tour of Sustainable Energy Classroom at Miller

Today we were luck enough to visit Ziko's dad's classroom at Miller High School.  The eight students in the Sustainable Energy vocational course showed our class through four stations that included; wind power, solar power, electrical circuits and snakes.  Room 3 students enjoyed the tour and the chance to learn about energy.  They were very impressed with their tour guides.  Thank very much Bruce and the students in the class.

Baby Marli's Last Visit

It was Baby Marli's last visit to Room 3 on Tuesday.  Marli walked into our classroom holding her mom's hand.  She was very active and moving all over the place.  In the picture below she walked over to Kate to look at the Pax poster and liked the colours.  Marli played with all the toys.  She was able to pick up 2 of the Roots balls and bang them together. She enjoyed taking the toys out of the fish bowl.  Marli was very interested in all the students around the blanket.  We weighed Marli and she was almost 3 times heavier than when she was born.  Mrs. Braun brought in a snack for her last visit and Robyn gave us all a picture of Marli to remember her.  We felt a little sad when she left our class.  We gave Marli our wishing tree and we hope that she will remember us.  We will remember her and her visits.  Thank you very much for coming to our class and being our little teacher!

Planting Flowers

Room 3 was luck enough to help Mr. Thiessen plant flowers at Elmwood. We learned to hold the flowers by the roots and dig a hole to put them in. Luckily it rain today to help the flowers grow.

Baby Marli Visit 8

Marli came for a visit on Thursday and Robin brought a chair for her to sit in and eat.  She enjoyed eating Cheerios but she didn't really like the scrambled eggs.  Marli walked into the class holding on to Robin's hand.  She clapped for us, and gives Marli kisses, and knows how to show how big she is.  We noticed all the things she can do that she couldn't do when she first came to Room 3.  She can crawl, she can hold on to toys and pick up things easily, she can now eat solid food, she can now roll over and she can stand up and walk with help.  Marli is crawling more and she crawled away from the blanket to go and get a drink of water.  We are a little sad that the next visit will be Marli's last visit to Room 3.

Science Presentation

WISE Kid-Netic Energy Presentation

Grade 1 students were lucky to have a presenter from the University of Manitoba come and give 3 science based presentation today. We started the day with a number of experiential where we learned about exothermic and endothermic chemical reactions and about testing whether a substance is a base, neutral or acid. After recess she played a senses game with the grade ones that showed us how to describe objects using different words and then students guess what the objects were. After lunch we had a presentation about food and digestion where we learned the difference between chemical and physical digestion.

There will be a science camp in Morden from July 29 to August 2. Please contact the school for more information or visit: www.wisekidneticenergy.ca  The camps are for ages 9 to 12 years old.

Baby Marli Visit # 7

Marli came to Room 3 this morning.  She walked into our room while holding on to her mom's fingers.  She showed us that she has learned to crawl all by herself.  She enjoyed watching the students in Room 3.  She moved around by herself today and like always put everything in her mouth, even Kate's shoelace.  Marli made sure that she could always see her mom.  We think she feels safe when her mom is near.

Baby Chicks

Room 3 had a visit from Mr. Driedger and Andrew from West Park School on Friday.  They came to show us the baby chicks that they have had in the their classroom for the last month.  We learned that it takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch and that chicks have one tooth in their life on the end of the beak.  That tooth is used to get out of the egg when it is time.  We were lucky enough to hold the chicks as well.  Thanks to Mr. Driedger and Andrew for their informative visit.
